Nowadays new medical experiences such as inquiry through one click, cloud-end hospital and remote surgery are no more strange to Chinese people. With the rapid development of “internet+ smart medical treatment”, the new landscape of information and intelligence based health for all people has become an important theme.

How should China make a better use of intelligent medicine to serve the fitness of all people? Dr. Gauden Galea, a WHO representative in China who was attending the 6th World Internet Conference, voiced his suggestion at Wuzhen on October 21. He said, we should fully connect the two fields of network and information technology and health, and do a good job in such issues as evaluation, monitoring and standard formulation while actively introducing new technologies such as artificial intelligence and big data.

“Intelligent medicine was a futuristic model beyond the imagination of China back in 2009. After ten years of rapid development, it has become a regular and common application today.” The AI technology has been used by more and more hospitals to identity medical imaging and support clinical decisions. In early 2019, Chinese doctors finished the first case of 5G based remote surgery in the world. Dr. Gauden Galea said, China is globally leading in the field of intelligent medicine and the various service standards established in China today are of important global significance.

“In order to better unleash the advantages of intelligent medicine in the following ten years, we still have a lot of work to do.” Dr. Gauden Galea said. For example, we should provide more training to the public health policy makers. In addition, technical experts and health managers should enhance their contact so as to formulate better policies on intelligent medicine. “The security of personal data is a very realistic issue. We must develop supervisory measures in time to ensure that the data is used safely and legally.” He said, “Finally, stepping up investment to perfect the network infrastructure construction is also of great importance to the development of intelligent medicine. The government and enterprises should work together.”
