Media integration highlighted during the 6th World Inter-net Conference in Wuzhen

A forum on media integration was held on Monday in Wuzhen in East China’s Zhejiang Province during the 6th World Internet Conference. Hosted by the People’s Daily, the forum focused on integration, integrity and innovation, with guest speakers from various countries discussing and addressing the future of media integration.

Zhuang Rongwen, head of the Cyberspace Administration of China, said that China attaches great importance to integrated media development.

  

He said that the world faces profound changes brought by in-formation technology to the ecology of public opinion, the media landscape and communication. In response, we should take the initiative, adhere to integrity and innovation, promote media integration, and continuously improve the penetration, guidance, influence, and credibility of news and public opin-ion, so as to contribute to building a cyberspace that has smart interconnections, openness, cooperation, and transpar-ency that will benefit the people.

In China, media integration is not only a transformation of media brought by the technological revolution, but also a pro-found change planned and promoted at the national level, said Li Baoshan, president of the People’s Daily.

  

Li noted that it is necessary to firmly grasp the opportunities of informatization, make good use of the achievements of the information revolution, and accelerate the building of an inte-grated all-media communication pattern.

  

He suggested we stick to the right path of the media and give full play to professional strengths, prioritize content in news production, obtain competitive advantages, maintain technical sensitivity and seize the high ground in technology.

Regardless of how the forms of communication change, the fundamental principle in which content is prioritized remains unchanged, he said.

  

In the internet era, a mobile communication platform is essen-tial to promoting integrated development. With the advent of 5G technologies, short videos are turning into essential com-ponents in news production. To promote integrated media de-velopment, it is essential to do a good job in laying the foun-dation and bringing benefits over the long term, Zhu added.

Rigobert Ikambouayat Ndeka, Gabon’s minister of communi-cation and digital economy, said that Gabon has formulated and implemented a strategic plan in which media technology integration and platform construction are important compo-nents to foster the country’s economic growth. In the future, Gabon will continue to carry out cooperation with countries including China and promote digital transformation and me-dia integration, he said.

  

Around 300 representatives from government agencies, media outlets and IT companies as well as renowned experts and scholars gathered to share views on topics like media integra-tion and development trends in the all-media era. In-depth di-alogues outlined the future of media.

  

By setting up keynote speeches and roundtable discussions, the forum was devoted to building a platform for strategic studies on media integration, showcasing leading media and ecological achievements in the media field and strengthening exchanges for international development.
