Hang'en Reservoir solves the water use problem of Pingbaying Town for more than 10 years, which is the achievement of Yuhang District, Hangzhou, who invested more than 8 million yuan to the project. The commissioning of the safe drinking water irrigation project has helped 26,200 villagers in 22 administrative villages of Pingbaying Town to solve their water use problem for more than 10 years, including 8 key poor villages, and 14,800 poor people whose files and cards have been created.

The water shortage in Pingbaying Town has been going on for many years. At the beginning of this century, local coal mines were developed, and the continuous intensified deep digging caused surface water to gradually subsided and leaked. During the dry season from October to February of the following year, water was often in shortage in nearby villages. “In previous years, each household spent about 1,000 yuan on the water every year. For poor families, this is a huge expenditure.”

In October last year, after a preliminary inspection by the Working Group of Yuhang Counterpart-assistance of Xianfeng, it was believed that the poverty alleviation funds should be used on urgent matters such as the construction of a reservoir, in an effort to free tens of thousands of people in Pingbaying Town from drinking high fluorine water.
