World's largest silk road themed event "2020 Silk Road Week" commenced with global engagement

Organized by China's Cultural Heritage Administration and the People’s Government of Zhejiang Province, the first "2020 Silk Road Week" (hereinafter refers to SRW) commenced with an opening ceremony at China National Silk Museum at 15:00 p.m. on Friday, 19 June 2020.


The 1st SRW taking place with the theme of "The Silk Roads: Mutual Learning for Future Collaborations" aims to contribute to the construction of the defenses of peace in people's mindsets and an agreed foundation and a starting point for future collaborations inspired by the cultural heritage of the Silk Roads. 


Under the coordinatorship of the SRW organizing committee members, the event has engaged more than 200 museums and institutions around the world, among which 100 Chinese and foreign curators have filmed short videos of their cultural relics, including Birmingham Museum of Art from the USA, Queen Sirikit Museum of Textiles from Thailand, Museum of Islamic art in Cairo from Egypt, Nasledie Institute from Russia, Swedish Army Museum, National Museum of Korea, Republican historical and regional study Museum named after Rudaki in Tajikistan, Tracing Patterns Foundation from the USA.

New this year are the launch of the "Annual Report of Silk Road Cultural Heritage 2019" and the launch of the "World Map of Silk Project". The "Annual Report of Silk Road Cultural Heritage 2019" introduces the major events in the field of Silk Road cultural heritage in 2019 in four categories, including a comprehensive survey, archaeology, exhibition, and academic research. The "World Map of Silk Project" highlights the integration of all the resources and information related to the silk heritage, including archaeological discoveries, historical documents, craftsmanship, industrial heritage, natural ecology, museum collections, etc. and the establishment of a platform based on the geographical distribution to demonstrate the history of silk development, exchanges along the Silk Road, and manufacture of the silk industry.

Exhibition of SRW


Within the framework of the 1st SRW, exhibitions, seminars, and various online activities will take place. In terms of the online coloring game of Silk Road patterns for children and teenagers, a total of more than 500 adorable entries from all over the world have been successfully submitted.
