Gold Crown - From Geumgwanchong Tomb, Gyeongju - Silla, 5th Century CE - National Treasure No. 87 - H: 27.5cm

Gyeongju National Museum, Korea

The gold crown is of a typical design from Silla with three main tiers of arms and two side arms stretching out from the rim of the crown. The rim was engraved with two rows of stripe patterns and a row of wave patterns by means of a sharp tool such as an awl.

In addition, the crown was decorated with comma-shaped jade beads and gold spangles. The branch-shaped ornaments have wider and larger tiers of arms and the side branches are smaller, indicating that this gold crown was made earlier than the one excavated from Cheonmachong tomb.
