According to the Economy and Information Technology Department of Zhejiang Province, a total of 50,947 5G base stations have been built by the end of June. According to this year's government work report, it is expected to build up a total of 50,000 5G base stations by the end of 2020. Up to now, Zhejiang has completed its annual objective in just half a year. 

Despite the impact of the unexpected COVID-19 outbreak, 5G base station construction in Zhejiang has not been hampered. By the end of 2019, a total of 15,770 5G base stations had been built in Zhejiang. Moreover, Zhejiang added more than 35,000 new 5G base stations in the first half of this year.

"In the first half of the year, Zhejiang Mobile opened up a total of 31,700 5G base stations. At the same time, we have also increased our total target of completing base stations this year from 35,000 to 40,000," said Zhao Chenhui, a 5G engineering project manager in Zhejiang Mobile.

According to the responsible person from the Economy and Information Technology Department of Zhejiang Province, based on the extensive layout of 5G base stations, Zhejiang has carried out more than 140 scene applications in more than 10 fields, including high-definition video, smart transportation, smart medical treatment, and industrial Internet, showing a trend of accelerated expansion and in-depth development.

At the same time, road traffic, water conservancy and hydrology, public security and other fields are being comprehensively laid out. Besides, all kinds of user-oriented smart terminals, such as payment terminals, E-mail stations, charging piles, ETC., and face brushing system, are becoming increasingly popular.

It is planned that more than 120,000 5G base stations will be built in Zhejiang by 2022, which means that 5G signal coverage will be realized in regions above towns and townships, key administrative villages, and important industrial parks in the whole province.
