"I am just an ordinary student and many foreign students are better than me," said Wang Xiaodong. When the reporter interviewed him, he was a little embarrassed, "I don't understand why so many people pay attention to me since what I did was not worth mentioning.”

Vasilii Moshchelkov, of Russian nationality, lives in the post-Baikal region, an SJD student of grade 2017 from Guanghua Law School of Zhejiang University. He is studying Chinese law for a doctor's degree from Professor Qian Hongdao. His Chinese name is Wang Xiaodong, meaning "understand the east". He is keen to participate in public welfare activities. He joined the "Young Volunteer Service Team" in the Qinghefang community, and often participated in the activities of the International Post of the Citizen Police Academy. In the six years since he came to China, he has donated blood six times. He often says: "As a foreigner living in China, I should place myself in Chinese' position and help them deal with troubles and difficulties because China has provided us with a lot of help and convenience, and I also want to help the Chinese people."

A young man who traveled a long distance to collect anti-epidemic materials

At four o'clock in the morning, the world was still sleeping and everything was enshrouded by the darkness. However, a room was brightly lit where Wang Xiaodong was still working nervously. Because of the time difference, he needed to contact Russian companies from the afternoon to 2: 30 a.m. or even 4: 00 a.m. the next day, and then exchange the collected information with the Chinese team at 8: 00 a.m. He usually only slept for 4 hours a day.

During his internship at a law firm, Attorney Zhang Wei, who was helping the Overseas Chinese Charity Foundation look for masks, invited Wang Xiaodong to contact Russian mask companies, and Wang readily agreed. In this mask-searching team, Wang Xiaodong was responsible for contacting factories, negotiating prices with managers and solving legal problems. This seemingly simple work entailed a huge workload. In order to collect enough masks as soon as possible, Wang Xiaodong identified all mask manufacturers, categorized them by time zone, and contacted the companies closest to China first. There were some shell companies among all the companies, and he needed to check the quality certificates carefully to get rid of them. In this way, Wang contacted nearly 40 mask companies in Russia, Thailand, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Ukraine, and the United States, collecting millions of masks for the foundation. "Many people in our team are responsible for logistics and customs clearance, and my strength is very limited." The young man said humbly.

A handsome young man in the anti-epidemic volunteer team in Qinghefang community

After the work of contacting mask manufacturers was finished, Wang Xiaodong began to serve as a volunteer in the Qinghefang community. At one o'clock in the afternoon every day, he would begin to work in the green sentry box of the Qinghefang community until about six o'clock in the afternoon when he took the last bus back to Xixi. It usually takes him about two hours to commute. He said: "China is not a foreign country to me. I should help the Chinese solve the problems they have. I want to help China.” Wang Xiaodong's efforts solved many communication problems for this internationalized community. With six years of living experience in China, he could speak fluent Chinese and was adept at taking temperature, checking certificates, registering information and explaining the application procedures for the health QR code. On rainy days, although he wore a raincoat, his hair and clothes were still wet, but he didn't care. He just put the temperature detector closer to his chest for fear of malfunction due to the low temperature. Wang Xiaodong said humorously to other people: "I am from Siberia, so I am fat and not afraid of cold. You need to hide from the rain in the tent."

Loving the law and wanting to stay in the picturesque city of Hangzhou

Talking about future development, he said he wanted to stay in the picturesque city of Hangzhou after graduation. To achieve this goal, he should continue to do many things and had no time to go home and rest, so he stayed in China this holiday writing papers, studying Chinese, interning at a law firm and reading professional books: he had a busy winter vacation. Wang Xiaodong believed that China was the fastest-growing country in the world and that China had accumulated rich experience in international law relations both in the economic field and in political and legal research. During his study in law school, he gradually learned how to carry out work in the legal field in China, and he compared the advantages of legal analysis and application in the Russian and Chinese legal systems. He has successfully applied his legal knowledge to practice and mediated between Chinese factories and the Russian government, for which he received thank-you letters from them.

Wang Xiaodong said that he had already taken China as his second hometown. Patriotism means not only loving one's motherland but also loving the country one life in. He sent President Putin's words to his Chinese friends: "I believe that our Chinese friends will get out of the current predicament. We hope that the struggle with COVID-19 will succeed as soon as possible. "
