This book highlights the current living conditions and spiritual outlook of ordinary Chinese people, and showcases the changes in their lives and the Chinese dream in a time of large-scale change.

The documentary of the same title, Fall in Love with China, won seven national awards, such as the 2017 “Recording China” communications project of the Central Publicity Department. Currently, there are three international versions of the documentary: German, French and English. The German version was noted by UNESCO and broadcast on OKTO TV (Austria), while the French version was broadcast nationally during primetime by IDF1 TV (France).

Fall in Love with China explains the concept of a community of shared destiny for mankind, resonating with western readers through its depiction of environmental issues and ordinary people. In overseas promotion of the multilingual editions of the book, the great achievements of China's reform and opening over the past 40 years are explained, enhancing the cohesiveness and self-confidence of China’s cultural and historical memory. Through the smiles of the Chinese people, a lively and vibrant China comes through to the world.

Yan Lei, the book’s protagonist, is known as one of the “Best Foreign Photographers of Chinese Themes.” From Beijing to Dong Village, from Shanghai’s first stock exchange to Hani Terrace in Yunnan, Yan used his camera to capture momentous changes in Chinese society, leaving behind precious historical records.
