On the second day of the culture tour themed “Beautiful Zhejiang”, the delegation of members from Malaysia, Japan and Africa went to the Yiwu International Trade Market in Yiwu, and the Pujiang County, where they paid a visit to the well-known Songxi Village, a historical village with a history of more than 1,000 years.

What have impressed the correspondent of In Zhejiang most are the moments of cultural fusion when media veterans from different cultural backgrounds engaged themselves with the local people and various featured activities organized by the locals to welcome the arrival of the delegation.

In the morning of the second day, the delegation was invited to the Yiwu International Trade Market, where the domestic or perhaps a world hub of commodities is located. Several media representatives told In Zhejiang correspondent that they were very much highly impressed by the huge volumes of commodities in this market and had never seen a comparable one in other places of the world. A journalist from Japan said that a myriad of products from those “one pound” stores in Japan were actually imported from Yiwu and gave a thumbs-up for the commercial speed of Yiwu. On the site, several media representatives experienced some products with Yiwu cultural characteristics and some even had a try of learning how to bargain for a prize in a way of doing business in China.

During the late half of the day, the delegation made a visit to the Songxi Village, an old village that enjoys a history of more than 1,000 years. Guests received a very warm welcome from the village people and experienced authentic cultural activities organized by the locals. At a small tavern within the village, some guests from Pakistan and Africa even started to sing and dance. It was a moment when I believed that cultural fusion can be established upon such kind of intercultural dialogues, through which people who have distinctive beliefs get together to build a hybrid space and try to understand each other. It is helpful for journalism professionals to get closer to the realities and the inside of other cultures, so as to get to know the world better and thoroughly.
