In response to the "Belt and Road Initiative" (BRI) and explore the market of Africa, the fifth China Trade Expo (South Africa) was organized by Wenzhou Bureau of Commerce combined with Executive of Meorient International Expo in Expo Centre Johannesburg on 25th September under the auspices of Wenzhou Government, which is Wenzhou’s first Expo in South Africa.

Being the most influential Expo in South Africa, the China (South Africa) Trade Expo, covering an area of 15,000 square meters, attracted 362 foreign trade enterprises from 11 provinces and cities, with an increase of 50% compared with that of last year. There were more than 15, 000 purchasers from the local and countries like Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Swaziland, Lesotho, etc.

The Expo area consisted of textile and clothing, household furniture and electrical appliances, illumination lamps and lanterns, household gifts, creative cultural design, mechanical equipment, foods, building material hardware, etc. The live Expo was setup as Internet Expo Trade for comprehensive trade service platform named China Purchasing Centre, which drew the attention of numerous buyers and suppliers through the new pattern of Online And Offline (OAO).

"The relevant government officials between China and South Africa highly value this Expo," said insiders from Wenzhou Bureau of Commerce. "The attendance of officials from two countries promote friendly contacts and mutual trade between the two peoples, which will be a very eye-catching part among this Expo." It was reported that Moholmi, director of GEDA, Mtho Xulu, president of the local Chambers of Commerce and Industry, and Kima, tribe chief of South Africa, were invited as the VIPs to attend the Opening Ceremony & cut the ribbon with Chinese Government Officers.

It is worth noting that the creative pattern of Meorient Cross-border Foreign Trade Service Platform made the process of marketing BRI more efficient.

As introduced, the Meorient Platform is based on self-organized overseas Expo. Different from the traditional trade service, it had been seeking for emerging market involving BRI and established a comprehensive OAO Foreign Trade Hub through the integration of Big Data, Internet and Expo. With the advantage of huge platform and the capability of resources from professional areas, it played an important role in helping Chinese enterprises further the markets of BRI by taking 8 innovative services such as BRI Offline Expo, making a match for O2O trading, B2B Electronic Commerce, BTC cross-border E-commerce, Meorient Exploring, Meorient Lectrue Hall, China Purchasing Centre, and League Membership of Brand Chain and Manufacturing.

Besides, the First (China) South Africa Investment Cooperation Forum is the focus of this Expo. "In order to help settle Chinese enterprises into local markets, the Forum is held concurrently. Many experts of South Africa are invited and explain face-to-face to Chinese suppliers about investing policies and competitive items. We are looking forward to a good future for the production capacity cooperation between China and South Africa."said a person in charge of Wenzhou Bureau of Commerce.

This is not Wenzhou’s first exposition held abroad. Since 2008, such expositions have been held in Jordan, India, and Russia.
