The unlawful assemblies and violence have continued for more than two months. The police of Hong Kong have been pushed to the teeth of the storm.

In order to curb the violence, they worked hard around the clock. For the past two months, they were implicated, hurt, attacked, and upset. In the critical moment, they remained on their post fearlessly to maintain the rule of law. Since June, the radical protesters of Hong Kong smeared the police and agitated hatred towards the police. However, the fact was totally contrary to their slander and attack.

On August 19, in response to the radical protesters’ alleging that “the police abused force”, the police issued a claim in the early morning to point out that in the past two months violence had occurred in quite some large demonstrations. The police had tried to remain restrained and resorted to corresponding force to curb the violence only when the illegal violence caused danger to the safety of people at the scene. The radical protesters neglected the fact that it was them that challenged the police and launched a violent attack and blamed the police for resorting to force. They had reversing the cause and the effect, which was very unfair.

The police of Hong Kong have been subject to groundless blame. And their families have also often been harassed, abused and threatened. The dorms of some policemen were even sprayed with characters “your wife and children will be implicated”. And the children of some policemen were bullied in schools.

The Hong Kong citizens expressed respect and support for the police in different ways. Several Hong Kong wide activities were launched to back the police, which had won a heated response. August 10 was a day for all people to back the police launched by the Hong Kong Guarding Alliance. On that day, citizens visited each police station to express their gratitude, send their greeting cards, co-signed letters and greeting gifts they bought together. On that day, hundreds of thousands of citizens were involved. From then on, their supporting activities continued till now.

Ah Ming, a front-line policeman, said, “The attack and humiliation from the outside will never demoralize us. Instead, we will stand closer and be more united.” He said, the police had the ability, responsibility and resources to continue to cope with violent demonstrations.
