The exhibition mainly chooses the original aesthetic system bred by Chinese mythological thinking as the primary research approach. With the deep sorting of mythological documents, mythical images and cultural symbols and the combination of mythological metaphors, the exhibition tries to decipher deep transmutation of space-time, geography, history, and other dimensions covered in the text of Shan hai jing in an interdisciplinary way, so as to reconstruct the symbiosis relationship between the "ego" and the "other" that exist within the individual survival consciousness of contemporary society.

Shan hai jing (Classic of Mountains and Seas) is the earliest cultural and geographical record in China. As described on Amazon and goodreads.com, it is a Chinese classic text containing a treasure trove of rare data and colorful fiction about the mythical figures, rituals, medicine, natural history, and ethnic peoples of the ancient world. The Classic of Mountains and Seas explores 204 mythical figures such as the gods Foremost, Fond Care, and Yellow, and goddesses Queen Mother of the West and Girl Lovely, as well as many other figures unknown outside this text. This eclectic Classic also contains crucial information on early medicine (with cures for impotence and infertility), omens to avert catastrophe, and rites of sacrifice, and familiar and unidentified plants and animals.

This enlightened exhibition has collected nearly 50 major domestic and international artists' thematic works. It is a big collection of rich and diverse media installments such as installations, video, and so on. The themes include the imagination of the ancient past, the contemplation of the present society, as well as the thinkings of the future life.

The exhibition starts on October 1st and will end on December 13th. Stay tuned to our platform or visit Zhejiang Art Museum for more details.
