Fang Langlang is a post-90s sand painting artist in Hangzhou. He presented the characters of Dream of Red Mansions with sand, and uploaded the video of the creation process, which then got popular on the Internet.

He learned about sand paintings when doing graduation design

Fang Langlang was born in 1992. He is a local in Thousand Island Lake area.

His first contact with sand painting was due to the graduation design of the university. He studied animation at Zhejiang Media College. At that time, his teacher combined his painting strength with his own experience, and finally chose sand painting as his graduation design work.

Finally his graduation design work "Jiao Ren" was a success, which attracted many people inside and outside the school to watch.

Sand painting is a comprehensive art, requiring talent and effort

Fang Langlang knew stereoscopic perspective when he was only four. He liked to copy the illustrations in textbooks. "Art requires talent to some extent," he said.

Sand painting is a comprehensive art, which needs a close combination of stories, pictures, music, lines and other elements. Moreover, sand is light and hard to control. It is difficult to draw well without talent.

However, accumulation of practice is of great importance.

"I started to learn animation in college, and now it comes in handy. Without edit skill, my work won't be presented to you."

Fang Langlang advocates the craftsman spirit and chooses sand painting as a career for the rest of his life.

In a video of sand painting, only the last picture is left on the drawing board, leaving many people sigh that sand painting is a woeful art.

"It's really a pity. It hurts to see the sand erased..." such voices emerge one after another.

Fang Langlang, however, doesn't think so. He said, "The biggest feature of sand paintings is that they can connect stories in series and cover the painted paintings for better presentation. This may be sad in others' eyes. In my opinion, this is the reason for giving sand paintings a sense of movement."
