The owners of Nanshi Garden residential quarter of Xiaoshan district, Hangzhou are enjoying such a “VIP treatment” and giving their likes.

As you walk into Nanshi Garden residential quarter, your first feeling will be its cleanness and tidiness. Walk in along a broad road at the middle of the residential quarter, you can see household garbage sorting and dumping outlets on both sides of the road, which are well-designed.

The left side of each sorting outlet is like a shelf divided into four rows, in which a number of green dustbins are neatly placed. The residential quarter adopts a waste classification model of “one household, one dustbin, one chip”. Residents only need to carry their small green dustbin which contains perishable garbage downstairs and put it in the collecting cabinet. The staff will regularly recycle the perishable garbage from the dustbins and clean the dustbins so that residents can use them again.

Master Li is responsible for the waste collection of the said residential quarter. In the morning, afternoon and evening of every day, he will drive clearance truck to carry away the wastes from the sorting and dumping outlets.

It takes about 1 minute for him to clean every small green dustbin. After all dustbins are cleaned, he will wipe the collecting cabinet once again.

“When everything is cleaner, the residents will feel more comfortable and the residential quarter’s environment will be more tidy.” Li said. Relatively speaking, the workload in the morning and evening will be heavier, and the workload will be less in the afternoon.

A resident Mr. Zhang said, this sorting model has turned waste sorting into an issue with a sense of ceremony. “Originally the garbage chamber was open, insects flied about and it was very smelly. Now everyone has formed a habit of waste sorting. The waste dumping grounds are no longer smelly, and the residential quarter’s environment becomes more tidy.”

It’s reported that the said residential quarter has also introduced an innovative recycling station of renewable resources to perfect the four classification system of household garbage. A “smart account” for waste sorting has been assigned for every resident in the residential quarter. 100% of the data of four classification system will be connected with the smart monitoring system of household garbage, which will be accurate and registered with a real name.
